Eric Fredericksen | Associate Vice President for Online Learning and Professor in Educational Leadership, University of Rochester

Current Position and Past Experience
A senior leader at the University of Rochester since 2005, Eric Fredericksen has served as Associate Vice President for Online Learning and Professor in Educational Leadership. In this role, he provides leadership for the exploration of online learning initiatives across the university, facilitating online learning for residential and distance students at Rochester. In 2012, he was elected to the Board of Directors of the Online Learning Consortium (formerly Sloan-C) and served as the association's President until 2019.

A national leader in online education, Fredericksen served as a co-principal investigator and administrative officer for three multi-year, multi-million-dollar grants on Asynchronous Learning Networks from the Alfred P Sloan Foundation, where he grew the SUNY Learning Network program over seven years from two campuses offering eight courses to 119 enrollments, to 53 campuses offering 2,500 courses to more than 40,000 enrollments. After SUNY, he helped craft Cornell University's presence and direction in the use of contemporary technologies to support research, outreach, and teaching & learning both in and out of the classroom.

Education, Honors and Achievements
Eric Fredericksen holds an Ed.D in Education from the University of Rochester’s Warner School of Education and an M.S. in Curriculum Development and Instructional Technology from the State University of New York at Albany. He attained his M.B.A. from the University of Rochester’s Simon Business School and a B.A. in Mathematics from Hobart College.

Fredericksen provided leadership to the program that received the Sloan Award for Excellence in Faculty Development for Online Teaching and the Sloan Award for Excellence in Institution-Wide Online Education. He was also co-recipient of the EDUCAUSE Award for Systemic Progress in Teaching and Learning. In 2013, Eric was honored as a Sloan-C Fellow.
