Current Position and Past Experience
Deborah Obalil is the President and Executive Director of the Association of Independent Colleges of Art & Design. In this role, she leads the organization in achieving its mission of strengthening and connecting its members schools, thus advancing art and design education. Prior to her appointment with AICAD, Deborah operated a successful boutique arts management consulting firm, Obalil & Associates, for four years. The firm provided consultation and facilitation in strategic planning, marketing research and planning, and board development of non-profit art organizations, independent artists of all disciplines and creative for non-profit ventures.
Education, Honors and Achievements
Deborah Obalil holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Dance from Illinois Wesleyan University. She also obtained an Executive Certificate in the Executive Program for Non-profit Leaders from Stanford University Graduate School of Business.
Personal Details and Community Involvement
Deborah is currently Board Chair of College Visions, a college access and success organization serving first-generation, low-income students in Rhode Island. She is also a board member of the Foundation for Art & Healing and its signature initiative, the UnLonely Project addressing the current public health crisis of loneliness across many populations. Her personal passions include knitting, salsa and west coast swing dancing and gluten/dairy-free baking.
