Current Position and Past Experience
Dr. Danette Howard currently serves as Chief Strategy Officer and Senior Vice President of Lumina Foundation. Howard started at the Lumina Foundation as the Vice President of Policy and Mobilization.
Before joining Lumina, Howard served as Maryland’s Secretary of Higher Education, where she led the state’s postsecondary education coordinating agency, the Maryland Higher Education Commission. Howard started at the Maryland Higher Education Commission as the Director of Research and Policy Analysis. Earlier in her career, Howard served as the Assistant Director of Higher Education Policy at the Education Trust in Washington DC.
Education, Honors and Achievements
Howard earned her Bachelor’s Degree, summa cum laude, from Howard University. Howard earned her Master’s Degree from the Harvard University Graduate School of Education and her Ph.D. in Higher Education Policy from the University of Maryland, College Park.
In 2015, Howard was awarded the Howard University’s Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award for her success and national distinction in the fields of education and policy.
