Current Position and Past Experience
Blase Scarnati is the Director of Academic Programs at Global Brigades Inc., a non profit health and sustainable development organization that works with North American and European universities to reduce inequalities in Central America, Africa, and in Southern Europe on real-world issues, problems, and solutions.
Scarnati is currently on leave this year from his position as Director of Global Learning in the Center for International Education and Professor of Music History in the Kitt School of Music, where he has served for more than three decades at Northern Arizona University.

Education, Honors and Achievements
Scarnati earned a Ph.D and M.A. in Historical Musicology from the University of Pittsburgh in 1998.

He also has a Master of Music degree from Northerwestern University, which he earned in 1985 for his tuba performance. As well as a Bachelor of Music degree from Youngtown State University for the same instrument.

Personal Details and Community Involvement
Scarnati is the co-creator of the Global Learning Initiative, an across-the curriculum internationalization effort that contributed to Northern Arizona University receiving the Senator Paul Simon Award for Campus Internationalization in 2012.
