Current Position and Past Experience
Dr. Mark Arant is the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs at Northeastern State University. Prior to stepping into his current role, Arant served as Dean of the College of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics at the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith. He also served as the university’s Interim Dean of the College of Education.
Arant founded the STEM College at the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith and served as the Associate Dean and Interim Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Louisiana at Monroe.
Education, Honors and Achievements
Arant earned his BSc in Chemistry from Louisiana Tech University and his PhD in Organic Chemistry from the University of Alabama. In 2010, Arant completed the Institute for Management and Leadership in Higher Education from Harvard University.
Personal Details and Community Involvement
As diversions, Arant enjoys carpentry, landscaping, automotive work, and strategy-rich games. He has served on the Fort Smith Sparks Medical Center’s Institutional Research Board, the River Valley Botanical Gardens Committee, the Mercy Hospital Board, and Fort Smith Public Schools Education Taskforce.
