Current Position and Past Experience
Margaret O’Hara is currently the Director of E-Learning at the University of North Carolina, where she provides system leadership and direction for the design and implementation of an online outreach strategy for distance education programs, system-wide.

Prior to taking the position with the University of North Carolina, O’Hara was at East Carolina University for 13 years, where she served as an Associate Professor and, for the last seven years, as the Assistant Dean of the university’s College of Business. O’Hara also spent two years as an Assistant Professor at Columbus State University.

Before entering the higher education industry, O’Hara spent six years in the private sector as the Director of Information Services at Averitt Express.

Education, Honors and Achievements
O’Hara earned her PhD in 1996 from the University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business.

Personal Details and Community Involvement
O’Hara is a former president of the North Carolina Distance Education Association and has presented several papers related to e-learning at national conferences. She has also consulted on e-learning with the Southern Regional Education Board in several states and internationally.
